About Palm Beach County

Why Palm Beach County Is Florida’s Top Water Damage Insurance Market

Palm Beach County is home to 1.5 million residents and some of Florida’s most valuable real estate. It accounts for nearly 40% of all Florida insurance litigation — more than any other county. The Intracoastal Waterway runs the entire length of the county, coastal communities face hurricane storm surge from the Atlantic Ocean, and western communities including Wellington and The Acreage sit in low-lying flood zones prone to severe flooding. In October 2024, Hurricane Milton spawned an EF-3 tornado with 140 mph winds that devastated Wellington and the Avenir community in Palm Beach Gardens.

Hurricane Nicole
First Late-Season Landfall in 40 Years — Boca Raton Under Hurricane Warning

Hurricane Nicole made landfall in November 2022 — the first late-season hurricane landfall in Florida in 40 years. Boca Raton was placed under a Hurricane Warning as the storm’s massive circulation pushed directly toward the coast. Low-lying areas near the Intracoastal Waterway saw coastal flooding and beach erosion. The storm surge combined with king tides caused overwash in Boca Raton coastal communities south of Palmetto Park Road. Power outages hit thousands of Palm Beach County residents, and the storm compounded Ian’s damage from just weeks earlier.

Hurricane Ian
Ian’s Outer Band Tornadoes Hit West Palm & Broward Border

Hurricane Ian passed West Palm Beach as a Category 4 storm in September 2022. While the core went north of Palm Beach County, Ian’s outer bands embedded tornadoes that caused major damage in west Broward and parts of Palm Beach County. A funnel cloud touched down just west of the Sawgrass Expressway area. Heavy rainfall caused street and canal flooding across the county. Thousands of homeowners filed emergency water damage claims for roof damage, window failures, and flooding from Ian’s rainbands.

Hurricane Dorian
Category 4 Hurricane Passes 60 Miles Offshore — Significant Damage

Hurricane Dorian passed as a Category 4 storm approximately 60 miles east of Palm Beach County in September 2019. Despite staying offshore, the powerful storm caused significant impacts across the county — beach erosion, coastal flooding, and sustained tropical storm-force winds along the coast for hours. Palm Beach and Boca Raton waterfront properties sustained water damage from storm surge and wave action. Thousands of insurance claims were filed across Palm Beach County for roof damage and water intrusion.

Canal Flooding, Pipe Bursts & AC Failures — Palm Beach County Year-Round

Palm Beach County has over 2,000 miles of canals managed by the South Florida Water Management District. These canals flood regularly during South Florida’s rainy season (June-October), affecting homes throughout western communities including Wellington, Royal Palm Beach, The Acreage, and Loxahatchee. Beyond canal flooding, year-round water damage from pipe bursts, AC unit drain clogs, and water heater failures are the most common covered homeowners insurance claims across the county — particularly in Boca Raton’s aging high-rise condos and West Palm Beach’s historic neighborhoods.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions — Palm Beach County

How quickly can a team reach my Palm Beach County home?
Our certified crews serve all Palm Beach County communities — Wellington, West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter and all areas. We dispatch immediately upon your call, 24/7. Call (833) 840-0239 to confirm response time.
Does insurance cover tornado water damage in Palm Beach County?
Yes — if a tornado damages your roof or windows and rain water enters your home, this is typically covered under standard homeowners insurance as “wind-driven rain” damage. This is different from external flood coverage. After Hurricane Milton’s tornadoes in 2024, thousands of Palm Beach County homeowners filed successful claims for water damage from roof failure and window destruction. Document everything immediately.
Why does Palm Beach County have so much insurance litigation?
Palm Beach County accounts for approximately 40% of all Florida homeowners insurance lawsuits — largely due to the high value of coastal real estate, aggressive public adjuster and attorney activity, and the frequency of hurricane and flood events. This makes proper documentation and timely notification especially critical. Florida’s 14-day notification rule is strictly enforced here.
Does homeowners insurance cover Intracoastal flooding?
Flooding from the Intracoastal Waterway due to external storm surge typically requires a separate NFIP flood insurance policy. Standard homeowners insurance does NOT cover external floodwater. However, pipe bursts, AC failures, roof leaks from wind, and interior appliance failures ARE typically covered. Call (833) 840-0239 — we help determine what’s covered.
Do you serve Wellington, The Acreage, and western Palm Beach County?
Yes — we serve all Palm Beach County communities including Wellington, The Acreage, Loxahatchee, Royal Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Avenir, West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, Jupiter, Lake Worth, Riviera Beach, and all other communities from the Atlantic coast to Lake Okeechobee.
